8 Ways To Learn To Love Yourself

Learning how to love yourself can be a difficult task. Most people are taught from a young age that self-love is selfish. Sometimes we just need a little help and direction on how to love ourselves as much as we love others.

I’m on this journey right there with you!

Accept the fact that you are your own person

You can’t be anyone else, and you can’t force yourself to change who you are. But that’s actually a good thing—it means that if you want to learn to love yourself, it’s going to have to come from inside of you, not from any external source. That’s why it’s so important for us to learn how to accept ourselves as we are and appreciate our strengths and weaknesses.

Talk positively to yourself

You may not think it, but you’re your own biggest critic. You’re always telling yourself that you aren’t good enough or that you need to improve, but the truth is that you are amazing just as you are. So next time a negative thought pops into your head, tell yourself instead how great you are!

Let go of the toxic people in your life and focus on being happy with just you, for you

There are millions of people in the world who are ready to love and accept you for exactly who you are, and there’s no reason to spend your time pining over someone else when there are so many more deserving people out there waiting for a chance to show you how much they care about you.

Take a compliment

When someone gives you a compliment, don’t brush it off or make excuses. Accept it, and be grateful for it! The more you accept compliments, the easier it will become to believe them yourself.

Stop comparing yourself to others

We all do it. It’s practically a human instinct. But it can be so damaging for your self-esteem and your relationships with other people when you’re always looking at them and wishing you were like them.

It’s important to remember that just because someone else is taller or shorter than you, or has a different hair color, or likes different music than you do, or thinks differently about things, that doesn’t make them better or worse than you! It just makes them different. And that’s okay!

They are a part of the world and they deserve love just as much as anyone else does. So next time you catch yourself feeling jealous of someone else, try reminding yourself of this fact instead: everyone deserves love; even if they’re not exactly like me!

Go Easy On Yourself

It’s hard to love yourself when you’re constantly beating yourself up, right? So work on being kinder to yourself. That doesn’t mean you don’t set high standards for yourself or that you reward yourself with something small like a piece of chocolate every time you do something good—it means that even when things go wrong, you can accept that as part of life and try again. And if something good happens, don’t let it go to your head—just appreciate it fully and then move on.

You are not the thoughts in your head

This is a very important fact to remember as you learn to love yourself. You are not the thoughts that run through your head, and you don’t have to be defined by them.

It’s easy to get caught up in the idea that we are our thoughts and feelings—especially if those thoughts and feelings have been negative for a long time. But it’s important to remember that these things can change, and soon enough, you’ll find yourself looking back on them with a laugh at how silly they seemed at the time!

Write down all the things you like about yourself

1. Start small.

Don’t try to write down every single thing you like about yourself. Just start with a few things that come to mind, and make sure they’re not just “I’m smart” or “I’m pretty.” Try to say something more specific, like “I’m good at making people laugh,” or “I’m really good at cooking.”

2. Add details

Start with the basics, but then add more details to make it feel more real: “My favorite color is blue, and I love how it looks on me!” or “I have a dog named Lucky who is always happy to see me.”

3. Remember what makes you special

When you find yourself feeling down on yourself, remember all of the things that make you special—they’ll help keep you going!

Remember – learning to love yourself might not happen overnight

Loving yourself is an ongoing process, one that takes time, patience, and strength; however, this is a worthwhile goal that everyone should strive for. Trust me, I’m a work in progress myself!

6 Ways To Find Peace Of Mind Right Now

Peace of mind can sometimes be an elusive pursuit that seems impossible.

For many people, they strive to achieve high goals or great accomplishments. While there is nothing wrong with this, achieving your goals can come at a cost. You may sacrifice other areas of your life in order to achieve these goals. It’s easy to get lost in our daily routine where we feel as though we are constantly working hard towards something instead of enjoying the present moment.

So much in our world is uncertain. The future is uncertain, and the past can seem like an eternity ago with all the regrets we have. I’m challenging you to take six steps over the next several weeks to find peace of mind in an often chaotic and uncertain world.

Do not worry about what you cannot control

When we worry, we tend to focus on things we have no control over. And while it’s a natural human reaction, it is also a very unhealthy one that can lead to stress and anxiety.

If you’ve ever found yourself worrying about something unimportant or out of your control, take a step back and ask yourself if there’s anything you can do about it. If not, let go and move on with your life.

Take care of your body and mind

Finding peace of mind is easier when your body is healthy and your mind is clear. If you’re feeling stressed out or anxious, it might be time for a break from work or school. Take a few deep breaths and meditate for a few minutes each day. Exercise can also help relieve stress, improve your mood and boost energy levels.

Don’t feel guilty about doing things for yourself

We’re all so busy. We have to work, we have to make dinner, we have to take care of the kids. And then we have to find time to do something for ourselves.

Sometimes that means making time in the middle of the day, or sneaking away at night. Sometimes it means asking friends and family members to help out so that you can take a break or go on a date with your significant other.

Even if it’s just taking a walk around the block, it’s important that you remember that you’re allowed to do things for yourself.

Practice mindfulness and meditation, even just for a couple of minutes at a time

Meditation is about learning to be present in the moment and accepting what’s happening around you, rather than constantly trying to change everything around you. That’s an important skill in today’s world where so many people are constantly multitasking and trying to control everything around them.

If you’re dealing with stress or anxiety, meditation can help reduce symptoms by teaching your brain that there’s no need to panic because everything will be okay. This can help create peace of mind. And if your stress is caused by something going on in your life right now (like a big project), then meditation can help you deal with that situation better by helping you focus on what needs doing right now instead of worrying about everything else happening later down the road.

Set healthy boundaries when engaged in conflict with others

Healthy boundaries are those we set for ourselves based on our values and beliefs, not the needs or opinions of others. They help us establish our own sense of self-worth and identity apart from what others think about us. Set boundaries with people who don’t respect them, and you’ll feel better about yourself.

Give up negative self-talk and replace it with positive affirmations

Negative self-talk is often characterized by words such as “never,” “always” and “should.” For example, you might say to yourself, “I never have enough money” or “I always have problems at work.” When we constantly tell ourselves these kinds of things, they can become an ingrained habit that leads us to expect bad things to happen again and again in our lives! Positive affirmations are statements that communicate clearly what we want to achieve and how we plan to get there. Saying positive affirmations can help even more develop a positive peace of mind.

Takeaway: People can find peace of mind if they are willing to do things that support it

What do you do for self care?

As a life long student and someone who has always worked more than one job at a time, I realize that self care is a huge part of maintaining balance in my life. Yes, I work a lot, but I also need to make time to do things for myself. Sometimes that means cutting expenses in other places and splurging on myself.

So a couple of free self care things I like to do are to take walks or just simply nap for 20 minutes. Between meetings throughout the day, I judge if I need to get some energy out and get sunshine or if I need to shut my eyes and rest my mind for a bit. I try to build time into my schedule so that I can make these adjustments as needed.

Warmies! My friend got me this gift and I absolutely love it. Even while I’m working, I can heat up my unicorn neck wrap and put it around my neck to help soothe some of the neck pain that comes from looking at a computer all day.

BEACH! Now I’m fortunate that I’m driving distance to a beach. So on days I truly need to just get away and get some peace and relax, I can grab a book or listen to a podcast on the beach. When I didn’t live by a beach, I used to find a local park where I could sit under a tree and still be in nature.

And my last self care splurge is a massage. I don’t get them very often, but they are life changing. I feel so relaxed and in less pain after a massage. If you can find a massage school or a Groupon, you can usually get a good deal. It’s worth it!

Self Care is Important – Let’s Take Time for Ourselves

Connecting With Nature

In this digital age we spend so much time in front of our screens, especially if we are working from home. That’s why it’s really important to get out of the house whenever possible (and do so safely). This past week, I took a half day to go to a nature park and spend some time breathing in the fresh air, listening to the the birds, and smelling all the fresh scents of being in the woods by the water. I’ll share some pictures below and then some tips to connect with nature and stay motivated while being stuck at home more often.

Nature and Self Care

  1. Plan your week on Sunday if you can. Look at everything you have to do and try to make sure you can get outside for a walk at least a few times a week, every day if possible. I set timers in the morning and afternoon to get outside. If I don’t have time for a walk, I try to open the door and take a deep breath of fresh air.
  2. Explore new places outdoors. The park I visited was about 45 minutes away and I had never been there before. I took my time exploring and I only saw part of it. I look forward to going back and visiting more of it. I can’t wait to get out a map and pick out some new adventures to try for my next self care day.
  3. Don’t underestimate the power of fresh air, a cool breeze, birds singing, or green plants. I used to live in big cities so the immediate nature wasn’t always at my doorstep, but with a little walk or drive, I could find a nice quiet park to walk around and enjoy the green space. And if you don’t have time for that, research some calming plants to keep nearby in your work or home space.
